Dear Acero Community,
We are following updates about the Trump Administration’s plans impacting Chicago and other sanctuary cities. Over the weekend and today, we learned of several immigration raids in neighborhoods where our students and staff live. Reports of tactics used by federal agents, including loud sirens, blowhorns and physical aggression, are upsetting. We understand many within our community are feeling afraid, especially with today’s Supreme Court decision. This ruling allows immigration agents in Los Angeles to target people based on where they work, their appearance and the language they speak.
Each of our schools has safety plans in place to keep our communities safe. As shared in previous communications, Acero Schools will not allow federal agents to enter school buildings unless they provide a signed judicial warrant vetted by our legal team. We know that this alone does not ease all the anxiety you may have, but we hope that sharing our position helps with some fears:
Acero Schools remains a safe and secure place for your children to learn and thrive. We are privileged to serve every single member of our community. We celebrate the diversity within our student body and staff and believe your multilingualism is a superpower.
We will continue to review our practices to ensure we do everything possible to keep our learning communities safe. One recent suggestion includes organizing walking groups for students commuting to and from school. So far, interest has been low. However, if you wish to explore walking groups, please complete this form.
Please notify your school if you hear about raids near school or home. While school and network leaders are all tracking these activities, the more information we have, the better we can work together to maintain safety. You can find your school’s contact information by visiting the Acero Schools website and scrolling down to the map at the bottom.
Please also visit Acero’s Civil Rights Resource Hub. This Hub is updated regularly and includes helpful resources for families, including “Know Your Rights,” non-profit organizations providing aid and support, and information from the City of Chicago.

Estamos siguiendo las actualizaciones sobre los planes de la Administración Trump que afectan a Chicago y otras ciudades santuario. Durante el fin de semana y hoy, nos enteramos de varias redadas migratorias en vecindarios donde viven nuestros estudiantes y personal. Los informes sobre tácticas utilizadas por agentes federales, incluyendo sirenas estridentes, megáfonos y agresión física, son preocupantes. Entendemos que muchos dentro de nuestra comunidad sienten miedo, especialmente con la decisión de hoy de la Corte Suprema que permite a los agentes de inmigración en Los Ángeles atacar a personas basándose en dónde trabajan, su apariencia y el idioma que hablan.
Cada una de nuestras escuelas tiene planes de seguridad establecidos para mantener a nuestras comunidades seguras. Como se compartió en comunicaciones anteriores, Escuelas Acero no permitirá que agentes federales entren a los edificios escolares a menos que tengan una orden judicial firmada y verificada por nuestro equipo legal. Sabemos que esto por sí solo no alivia toda la ansiedad que puedas tener, pero esperamos que compartir nuestra posición ayude con algunos temores:
Escuelas Acero sigue siendo un lugar seguro para que tus hijos/as aprendan y prosperen. Tenemos el privilegio de servir a cada miembro de nuestra comunidad. Celebramos la diversidad dentro de nuestro alumnado y personal, y creemos que tu multilingüismo es un superpoder.
Continuaremos revisando nuestras prácticas para asegurar que hacemos todo lo posible para mantener seguras nuestras comunidades de aprendizaje. Una sugerencia reciente incluye la organización de grupos de caminata para estudiantes que van y vienen de la escuela. Hasta ahora, el interés ha sido baja. Sin embargo, si deseas explorar los grupos de caminata, por favor completa este formulario.
Por favor notifica a tu escuela si te enteras de redadas cerca de la escuela o el hogar. Aunque los líderes escolares y de la red están siguiendo estas actividades, cuanta más información tengamos, mejor podremos trabajar juntos para mantener la seguridad.
